The diagram says the upper and lower fences (I think that is word for the T shaped things on the whiskers) are the min and max, how can that be if there are outliers, numbers above and below these? If they are not the max and min, what are they?

The Max and Min shown represent the largest or smallest value that appears outside the IQR but greater (less for the lower) than 1.5*IQR plus the boundary (Q3 or Q1).

If the IQR value (Q3-Q1) is 10, and Q3 is 25 then the largest actual value that appears in the data between 25 and 40 ( 25 +(1.5*10) = 40 )would get the fence for the Max side.

And you may want to start making sure you are using a later Documentation reference. Lots of stuff added in some places since version 9.2.
