  When you are in EG and select: &lt;B&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;
Describe --&amp;gt; List Data&lt;BR /&gt;
(Then choose your variables )&lt;BR /&gt;
Click Options (in theTask Roles pane)&lt;BR /&gt;
Look for an option to "Print the row number"&lt;BR /&gt;
Check the box if you want to show the row number on your list of the data. Uncheck the box if you do NOT want the row numbers.&lt;/B&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;
  &lt;BR /&gt;
Otherwise, if you are looking at the data file in table mode, the numbers that go down the left-hand side of the table correspond to the row numbers or observation numbers.&lt;BR /&gt;
