I'm just catching up with this thread. It might be fun to post a blog series about how we work here at SAS with QA and internal standards. My colleague David Biesack will be doing that at http://blogs.sas.com/peerrevue.

But just to address a few points:

- our QA staff (development testers) are embedded with the development staff. My office shares a wall with that of the manager for EG testing; she's my neighbor.

- EG 4.3 has been through a rigorous testing cycle and we are confident that it's of high quality. That said, history shows that customers sometimes find problems that we didn't, and we try to address the important issues quickly through the hotfix process.

- If you suspect that EG is using more memory that it should and it's causing you problems, please work with SAS Technical Support to track the issue. We actually improved some of the memory management within EG 4.3. We are very interested to know what scenarios you might be running that cause undue performance issues. We don't think that the new program editor would cause this.
Hi,

Anyone know when EG 4.3 will be released in Canada. I was using 4.2 at my previous workplace but my current workplace still has 4.1. Just wondering if it is best to wait for 4.3 rather than upgrade sooner to 4.2.

A little birdie just told me that the release of EGuide 4.3 had been delayed, so it won't show up for anybody for a while. Darn! S/he wouldn't give me an expected date (no surprise there, and I didn't press), but the inflection in the voice indicated that it was more than a month out.

Whether to go with 4.2 now or wait for 4.3 probably hinges on how much of your EGuide work is in code tasks. The point-n-click activities didn't change much, if at all; the work was in the back-office type activities.
Here in NZ we are being told August, but we are also being told the 4.3 clients are due October, so not really sure.
At this point, 4.3 is out of Chris' hands and with QA. QA is an independent group (and, like all QA groups, guards the independence religiously), so Chris can't do much but guess based on past experience and the level of questions that he might be getting.

OTOH, QA saves all of us from having to do it locally. I see it as a net gain.

I've just downloaded a brand new order and it's only got EG 4.22. The documentation indicated to me that 4.3 was current. SAS said on Friday 20th August that it had shipped two days previously. Download was 10.6GB this time. I'm not a happy chappy and can only hope that a separate download is available for EG 4.3 shortly that can be added to my Software Depot.

I was also told by support that it is by request only from my account manager, they should be able to generate a order to enable us to download the latest depot which 'should' contain 4.3.

I must say the new way of obtaining the software is not very easy, sounds like we have to refresh our depot.

It is also a new install ie, at the end of the install you will have both 4.2 and 4.3 on your pc (assuming 4.2 was already installed), rather than an upgrade.
yes
(probably all) migration issues are resolved in getting the server up to 9.2.
To check, review the "Administering SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3" at http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/guide/index.html
In the middle it says "If you are migrating from SAS Enterprise Guide 4.2, the metadata is already in a SAS 9.2 Metadata Repository, so you only need to migrate SAS Enterprise Guide projects."
and
"A utility is included with SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3 to enable you to migrate groups of projects and documents to the correct format and to make global changes to metadata references. For more information, see Using the Migration Wizard." which may be the most important link for you "Using the Migration Wizard" http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/enclient/62806/HTML/default/n1say3dhjl5nz2n19dox33fswe6t.htm

depending on your number of projects

I now have 920_10w34 installed, with EG 4.3. Thanks to SAS for creating a new download. Looks like getting 10w34 is still semi-manual, so anyone placing an order should double-check the "Product" line of the email.

And EG 4.3 is happily displaying data from a SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services cube.

I've also created a software depot on a 16GB USB memory stick. Installing from a USB stick has proven significantly faster than DVD or network installs (but we still use the later for the main rollout). Ideal for 1-off test installs.

I have asked SAS is EG4.3 supported against a server running SAS9.2M2, and have had two answers, the first from Tech support saying "Yes it should be ok", and the second, from my local office saying "No you'll need to upgrade to M3".

I can't seem to find any documentation explicitly saying what versions of SAS 4.3 is supported against.

Does any one know the actual answer?

I am looking at the benifits of installing 4.3, but am unable to move to M3 yet. I understand we should upgrade to M3, but we have limited resources etc.
Technically it works with 9.2, any maintenance.

But best experience is with 9.2 maint 3; there are just a couple of features in 4.3 that depend on it. If you can install 4.3, and have to wait a bit before installing 9.2 maint 3. That's okay. EG 4.3 will work just fine.
