Is SAS Enterprise Guide (EG) Software Available for Individual Purchase?

Hi SAS Community,

I am exploring options to use SAS Enterprise Guide (EG) for personal learning and development. I have the following questions:

1. Is it possible for individuals to purchase SAS EG software, or is it only available for companies?

2. If individuals can buy it, is there a specific package or licensing option tailored for personal use?

3. How affordable is it for individual users?

I appreciate any insights or guidance you can provide.

yours is a good question. As you would expect, our best recommendation for you is to reach out to the SAS Institute in your region directly and ask those questions.

For now, what I know, and please do not take anything for granted or as the truth:

If you are a freelancer/partner should not be an issue. Yet, I would not expect any difference in pricing.

If you are a student, there are On-Demand options. Still, your local representative is the best option to walk you through the option(s) that would work best for you.

SAS Enterprise Guide is a client application that you use with a full SAS license -- it's not that useful on its own. You need a SAS environment to connect to.

If you have SAS 9.4 for Windows, SAS Enterprise Guide is part of the package. No extra license needed.

If you are working in an organization that has SAS 9.4 in a central server, SAS Enterprise Guide is licensed by the seat. It is also sometimes bundled with certain solutions.

If you are working with SAS Viya, a new distribution of SAS Enterprise Guide is in the works that will be available for download. It will have the ability to connect only to SAS Viya environments (when certain license requirements are met). Stay tuned for those announcements.

Enterprise Guide is one of the user interfaces for the SAS System. It only works if it can connect to SAS Foundation software, either on the same computer (called "local") or on a remote server.

For learning, SAS On Demand is provided for free, but only with the SAS Studio interface through web access; EG is available in combination with dedicated courses provided by academic institutions.

To get acquainted with the basics of SAS, I recommend to use the "standard" On Demand with SAS Studio.

As others pointed out, EG is "just" an interface to SAS.

Other interfaces are SAS Studio (web based) and VScode.

But I assume you primarily want to learn SAS coding.

Buying your own SAS license (if possible) - I wouldn't consider that affordable for personal use.

If you are an active student, you could get access to SAS Viya for Learners, but you need a University email account (e.g. .edu).
