&lt;P&gt;I'm not sure which version of&amp;nbsp;SAS Enterprise Guide you are using but there is a way, normally, to stop that behaviour.&lt;BR /&gt;From the &lt;STRONG&gt;Tools&lt;/STRONG&gt; =&amp;gt; &lt;STRONG&gt;Options&lt;/STRONG&gt; menu, go to &lt;STRONG&gt;Data&lt;/STRONG&gt; =&amp;gt; &lt;STRONG&gt;Data General&lt;/STRONG&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;If you untick &lt;EM&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;Always prompt when closing a project with temporary data references&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/EM&gt;, it should do the trick.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;

      <title>Enterprise Guide closes slowly checking temporary files</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Whenever one closes a SAS Enterprise Guide project, there is a status message in the lower left corner that says "Checking if data item k of N is temporary." &amp;nbsp;If N is large, it can take a fair amount of time before EG closes. We have tried deleting datasets in the "WORK" library, but it doesn't seem to help.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
