By default "XCMD" is disabled in SAS sessions launched via EG or other clients. To change this behavior, you need to specify -allowxcmd on the SAS command line in the Windows registry or the SAS command line that is specified to the SAS object spawner.

I'd advise contacting tech support for advice and exact steps, as allowing XCMD on a server should be done with caution.
The SAS Workspace Server invoked by EG is started with the -noxcmd option and therefore we cannot start excel from within EG. How can we change the option to -xcmd?

The server we are executing on is the Local server but as defined when connecting to a metadata repository and NOT the local EG repository.
