Just drag and drop to an area with a file-tab. behind that there is binary transfer. Would you use the upload task, all data is converted to a datastep using datalines and that one is transmitted. SPDE on a Server? Makes only sense when having spread over several physical volumes. With a SAN behind there you have a different IO behavior.

There is no coded way of uploading SAS data from local to server in EG, there is only the upload task as explained by Jaap.

In "legacy SAS" you had PROC UPLOAD - that is not available in EG.

The SAN is an external environment your local server is connected to. It hides all hardware and delivers some virtualized image. You can imagine the complaints as lack of options into that pool of hardware. Just found one. Joe Chang : SAN Configuration Performance Problems There must be more (Same kind of experiences myself). The SPD Server is designed to benefit from segregation in those physical spinning (rotating) hdd's. There are nit physical anymore.
I like to look at DBMS guidelines a they are mostly IO bound alos a blog like this http://www.brentozar.com/sql/sql-server-san-best-practices/ could help in the thinking on a server approach.
