      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;When I am not sure the the variable type, I tend to use MISSING() function, which will cover both Char and Number, and within Number, these wired missing values such as .z, .B, ._ etc.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Haikuo &lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
