hi Friends - how can we figure if we are using IOM or COM bridge for connection...what is the pros and cons of it...? I am using SAS 9.1 and 9.3. With 9.3 i am using stored processes...

Thanks!

Usually COM is only used to start a Workspace Server on your local machine.

If you connect to a remote server you use the IOM Bridge protocoll.

Maybe this link to the documentation can help you understand the infrastructure of SAS: SAS(R) 9.4 Integration Technologies: Overview

If using Stored Processes, then you have a SAS Metadata environment. You must use an IOM connection in that case -- there is no COM option.

As said, COM is the "automatic" Local server that you use when you have EG and SAS installed together on the same Windows machine, no metadata server necessary. If you are connecting to a configured workspace (for example, "SASApp") -- that's IOM.

For more behind-the-scenes discussion, see this paper:

http://support.sas.com/resources/papers/proceedings13/003-2013.pdf

Chris
