For SAS 9.4 the same link is below but please note it refers to desktop admin:

http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/bidaag/68194/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p1mqszcx14wdj4n1m9pu38l01l8n.htm

The question is why would you want to start it on a SAS server? From any PC where SAS Management Console is installed you can connect to your SAS servers. SMC is essentially a tool for managing multiple SAS servers primarily by configuring SAS metadata.

In my experience SMC is usually not installed on SAS servers and is exclusively used from client PCs.

Well, there is one situation that can trigger use of SMC on the server - some customers have a very strict view on what SW that is allowed to be installed on local PC's. In thise situations, as a SAS admin, you have the possibility and means to install SAS clients on the server.

But to answer the OP's question: it's there if it was installed contact the SAS server admin and/or the person responsible for the installation. If SAS did the installation, chances are that they left you with an installation report.

If it wasn't installed, you could probably install it now, check your SAS SW Depot. If it's missing there, you may need to place a new SW order to SAS, or use a SAS client SW Depot - if existent.

I've also worked at companies where remote login sessions to SAS servers was restricted to IT admin only. In that situation your only choice is to use SMC on PCs .

I would suggest though that it is best practice to run SAS SMC on client PCs, as servers should be dedicated to server activities only.
