SAS Architecture diagram explaining ports

Hello,

I have couple questions.

1) I am looking for a SAS architecture diagram which explains the ports that are used. Is there any like that

2) I have 2 Linux servers with different IPs but same hostnames (In different data centers), I copy all the SAS files retaining the permission and ownership from Server A to server B. Will SAS work on server B? Will all the configuration work like SSO etc?

In my experience, every SAS server installation I've been involved with has a DAD - Detailed Architecture Design. This design document contains diagrams showing the servers, network connections and flows and contains a list of ports used. I assume you don't have a design document for your installations? The problem is that SAS installations are custom-built so there are not really any standard architecture diagrams. Do you have separate Metadata, Application and Mid-tier servers for example or are these SAS servers all installed on the same physical server?

Is your server B your disaster-recovery (DR) server? You should be regularly switching over to it for a DR test to ensure it still functions OK. That is the only way to prove it still works.

2.For the second question in principle yes.
The DNS server at your installation does hostname translation. Nothing to worry on that account.
If you have any issues, then discuss with the Enterprise Architect / Linux Admins.

In corporate entities these decisions are the outcome of detailed planning and discussions.

In general SAS architecture diagram could be referenced from the docs. You can also find the list of ports required for SAS deployments.
However this could vary a bit from site to site and it's always better to have architecture reference diagram prepared which is relevant to your site before the installation.

For the second question assuming it is for HA/DR kind of scenario, it generally not advisable just to copy the files related to SAS installation or content from one environment to another. Instead proper system backup/restore or cloning tools/utilities should be used.
