SAS EM web app error in User Service configuration

Our enterprise miner users are getting an error when trying to launch the web application that says the following:

"An error exists in the User Service configuration. All preferences will be ignored in this session."

Then you are forced to click "OK" and get the following.

"Failed to load components."

Any insight into these errors?

Hi,

What is the version of EM . Normally we encounter similar issues in EM 6.1/6.2 when jre is updated with higher version. SAS recoomends to use jre 1.5.0_12. Please check your JRE version.

EM 12.1

JRE on the desktops continues to be updated by users. I assume that is the source of the issue. Do you agree?

I am having the similar issue with SAS Eminer 12.1. Getting the error message while trying to login. I tried with the lower version of javam but still no luck.

Same problem. Trying to install academic version of EM in preparation for teaching a course in January using it. Tried on two different machines with same result.

I think that the java version on the client machine is the problem

My configuration is the following:

1) Server: Amazon Web Service instance with Suse Entreprise Server. On This Machine Enterprise Miner Server (12.1) is installed

2) client: Laptop with Linux (the default JRE on this machine is 1.7.0_45)

To connect to the Eminer server i was tying from terminal: "javaws main.jnlp" to start Eminer with the JavaWebStart.

In this way I was getting all the errors:

"An error exists in the User Service configuration. All preferences will be ignored in this session."

"Failed to load components."

Therefore I downloaded the JRE 1.6.0.30 (same used by EM 12.1) and run the corresponding javaws and

everything was fine: I connect and I am ready to go. :smileygrin:

Yes, the problem was that it doesn't work with JRE 1.7. Switched to the recommended 1.6 version and it runs fine.

Hello Massi,

I am having the same issue in running SAS. According to your note, I need to install JRE 1.6 but the main.jnlp needs updated JRE(1.7), which I did. Now the thread tells me to switch back to JRE 1.6. It was not working with JRE 1.6 too. I hope you understand this problem and any help will be appreciated.

When you are using the web-start I assume you have - installed a server version of miner.

When you are using a server-version wiht a local eminer client the situation is a little bit different.

The desktop installation is using a lot of the same components but this configuration has other attention points.

The academic "on demand version" is mostly like the local eminer client. But has been modified.

That one should work fine with the adviced JRE (1.6).

The 12.1 version could be damaged by erronous fix (introduced by i97002 container type) Hot Fixes for SAS Enterprise Miner 12.1_M1 see issue 50497. Removing the fix or applying I97004 should help.

Check the instructions for verifying the midtier with miner. When the midtier (java container tomcat) is broken you will never get it up.

It is the reference in the sassw.cfg config-file in the <sashome> pointing to that. Eminer is using that file.

The webstart will download the java part by the browser and than start the java-process. It is this functionality being under fire as possible security breaches. There is a lot to do about closing java in the browser. Never mind, when you are using the webstart not all fucntionality could be available. The intgeractive decision tree shoudl be validated for that.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have couple of queries:

I have not installed any server version of miner, could you please share more details on this.
I have dowloaded i97005.zip (replacement of i97004.zip) but I have no idea how this fix would work.

So far what I have done is, I have created a profile, registered for a course (provided by my Professor), downloaded a file main.phlp (the web start file).

Now when I am trying to run this main.phlp it is giving error as mentioned in previous comments.

Please tell me if I am missing out any details, installations or fix in my process. It would be great if you could share more details.

You are running sas on demand academics miner version. Forget fixes and all other things.

I remember a thread with SASkiwi this was solved for some guy at India.

I have tried the same process, I also installed the quoted java version (JRE 1.6.0_24) and it is still giving me the same error. I have no idea what could be the root cause of this issue. I have tried it with different JRE versions so far and I don't think it is a version mismatch problem. Is it possible for you to assign a ticket to support specialist team for this?

sasan, I not a SAS internal person. I am independent. At my work my speciality is investigating and solving these kind of problems.

Sometime I am dealing with some kind of them that SAS people do not like to work at. As being too diificult for them (the first support line).

Your official support person for your issues is..... Your professor, at least according to what is SAS states for this on-demand service.

Dit you remove the existing java version and checked the 1.6 version is active in the browser.

Upgrading is often no problem but going back to an older version is.

IDEA: I uninstalled all the existing JAVA versions (ALL) and then installed jdk-6u24-windows-i586.

Main issue I have faced because of JAVA version.

Simplest way to resolve is just uninstall all JAVA versions and install jre-6u18 JAVA version. It works excellently well !
