You can read about the MEMSIZE and SORTSIZE in the relevant parts of the documentation

MEMSIZE System Option

SORTSIZE System Option

They are both very important from a performance point of view.

1.what is memsize 4g mean?what is sortsize 2g mean?

2.what is the use of utilloc?

Hello @himalayancat,

all of this is about performance.

memsize and sortsize is the amount of memory that this session can use, for general operations, and for sorting operations. 4g is 4 Gigabytes and 2g is 2 GigaBytes.

See: http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/hostwin/69955/HTML/default/viewer.htm#n0srij4mcdpzv2n1vtphltb00xjw.htm

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/37038194/increasing-sas-memory-memsize

Highly recommended reading: http://support.sas.com/resources/papers/proceedings09/333-2009.pdf

About UTILOC, it is a temporary location, for sorting, stat opertions, multi-threaded operations ... By default it is the same location as SASWORK, but it could be different.

https://documentation.sas.com/?docsetId=lesysoptsref&docsetTarget=p1texr4rxo0ipyn1ovajj11raccx.htm&docsetVersion=3.1&locale=en

Mind of not having them too high if you are under SAS 9.4 M1: http://support.sas.com/kb/50/035.html
