Why not try a Google search: "Metadata server cluster" ?

Results:

SAS® Help Center: How Metadata Server Clustering Works

SAS® Help Center: Configuring a Metadata Server Cluster

SAS® Help Center: Metadata Server Clustering

SAS 9.4 metadata cluster: what and why? - SAS Users Groups

In brief:

A metadata server cluster requires minimum three metadata servers ("nodes").

If the cluster has an odd number of nodes, more than half are required to be running for the cluster to operate.

If the cluster has an even number of nodes, half are required to be running for the cluster to operate, as long as the master node is included in that half.

Although the cluster appears to the SAS user as a single metadata server, each node in the cluster maintains its own configuration files, metadata, logs & journals.

Apart from machine name, all nodes in the cluster must essentially be configured identically - operating system, file mounts/mappings, etc..

IOM load processing, managed by the master node, is used for the nodes to communicate.

Although it is common to see these as separate branches of shared storage, the nodes do not require shared storage.

Hello,

In a cluster Metadata SAS Grid Environment, generally how many metadata servers are recommended to install 2 or 3. Where they will be installed on local storage or shared storage ?

Thanks !
