topic geodist function in SAS Programming

Accroding to this SAS note:
http://support.sas.com/kb/36/198.html

The new GEODIST function in SAS® 9.2 returns the geodetic distance between two latitude and longitude coordinates.

Is this geodetic distance the same as spherical distance/great-circle distance?

No, it uses the Vincenty formula as referenced in the documentation of the function. See
