I have seen some code use _dummy_ to read in extraneous characters, or move to the next legitimate field while reading in a file.&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
I don't think it's a sas keyword, I think it's just some folks' convention for a "throw-away" variable.&lt;BR /&gt;
