What SAS interface are you using? It is even possible to do this to yourself in EG by having the dataset open in the data viewer while also running a program/task on the same dataset.

Now, as I access my dataset with libname statement and recoding (which was previosuly going fine) I recevie the following error message in log

"A lock is not available for PE.MATCHEDATA_21.DATA". What does it mean?

Thanks

Someone/something else is using th dataset and you can't access or overwrite it until they're finished.

See some options in this previous thread
