I’m currently using GitHub Copilot and would like to connect it to my SAS project so that I can use it to document and optimize my code. Is there an IDE that allows integration with SAS projects, or a way to connect the entire SAS codebase to Copilot? I’m using SAS 9.4 M5.

Are you talking about an Enterprise Guide project or something else? My suspicion is that you would have to export the code out of an EG project and then get Copilot to analyse it. I doubt Copilot could unpack an EGP file.

Hi @mokwenak,

Yes, one option is to use VS Code with the SAS Extension for VS Code and GitHub Copilot.

Since Enterprise Guide (.egp) projects are essentially ZIP files, you can make a backup, rename the .egp file to .zip, and extract its contents. This provides access to the individual SAS programs, which can then be opened in VS Code and analyzed by GitHub Copilot for code documentation, optimization, refactoring, and other improvements. After making changes, you can either repackage the files into an EG project or continue working directly from VS Code.

Important: Back up the original .egp project before making any changes, and ensure Copilot is used only on SAS code files, as modifying Enterprise Guide metadata files could potentially corrupt the project.
