The appearance of the higher order ASCII values is FONT dependent. Some fonts may not have an actual character mapped for some values. Most of the fonts I have installed will display ASCII 150 as lower-case u with a circumflex (Shift 6 on many key boards ^) over it.

Some programs will also be "helpful" and reformat to what it thinks you meant, which may be the Excel display

Hello,

I am trying to determine an issue when pulling data from our ODS database into SAS EG 6.1

Attached is an example of the problem, but below is the detailed description.

In our data, and when pulled using Microsoft Access or SQL server, a double hyphen (special character ASCII value 150) shows as follows:

Restorative and Orthodontia–GCCandNGCC

However, when using SAS to pull the data into EG, it is getting represented as follows (no dash):

RESTORATIVE AND ORTHODONTIA GCCANDNGCC

Then, when copied from SAS to Microsoft Excel, it shows as follows (converted to an arrow and best seen in the attachment):

RESTORATIVE AND ORTHODONTIA->GCCANDNGCC

(Note that I had to manually type '->' as I am not able to get the actual arrow to display when I pasted from Excel, but it is a single character)

Curious if anyone has seen a similar issue and may know the cause.

Thank you,

Mark

Make sure SAS and database have the sam encoding.

If it doesn't, some character would not appear in SAS side.
