I can reproduce this in Chrome, but not anywhere else. Here's what happens.

If I copy the SAS-L link while viewing the SAS-L page in Chrome and then I just paste the link (using CNTL+V), the long URL that you show above is added to the post.

If I create text like: Visit SAS-L for more on this topic. Then I highlight the text and use the hyperlink option (the A with the chainlink next to it) and past the URL in that field, it stays the normal short URL. I don't know what makes Chrome take all of that additional information from the Google group. Maybe because they can.

We can look into it. Until then, try using the hyperlink tool. Let me know how that works.

Thanks for letting us know about this.

hi ... if I cut/paste a URL from SAS-L (I'm using Chrome) into a posting, the URL appears briefly, but then I get ...

SAS-L archives -- August 2010, week 3 (#138)

LISTSERV at the University of Georgia

if I paste the URL into a text editor and lop off the "http://" portion, I get ...

listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1008C&L=sas-l&P=R11207

and that's what all the SAS-L yadda, yadda, yadda stuff was supposed to be

so, in the words of Marvin Gaye, what's going on
