      <description>&lt;P&gt;It would mean that any position controls or informat are wrong.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;In this case, an unexpected value (46#30) appeared for variable salary in line 4 (_N_=4 and the line number of the line listed) of the infile; since only 1 of 20 input records had the problem, we can assume that the INPUT statement as such is correct, but one input data item is wrong. So (after checking our code against the file documentation, to be sure) we will ask the source of the data to provide a corrected file.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
