Every time I run a data step using a data set downloaded from WRDS, I get the following message appearing in the log, which is a little annoying:</P><P></P><P>NOTE: Data file XXX.DATA is in a format that is native to another host, or the file encoding does not match the session encoding. Cross Environment Data Access will be used, which might require additional CPU resources and might reduce performance.</P><P></P><P>I think I understand what I need to about the origin of the message, but my questions are:</P><P>1. How do I really know if it is reducing performance? I can't tell that it is apart from it taking a fraction of second longer to open these data sets in the VIEW TABLE. As for the SAS code that I am running, they seem to do fine. Is there something else I need to worry about with these messages?</P><P></P><P>2. What can I do to make the data sets that I download compatible with my version of PC SAS? Do I need to resave the downloaded data sets in my version of SAS?
