&lt;P&gt;I would say that the square brackets here are useless and the regex is only used to&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;test whether the path macrovariable contains a hash sign.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
