Well there is proc template tables, thats really the only newish thing in that sense:

http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/odsug/65308/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p0d6f8o2geh12hn1v9ligv5v99yf-508.htm

I had built a system of mapping raw-sdtm-adam-tables some time back using metadata driven programming approach, but with visualisations and BI tools its really not worth the effort now. TBH the whole TLF concept is pretty old school.

Use hashing to create a set of tables. A character variable within an incoming data set contains a set of values, and the output includes a data set for each value of that character variable.

Using ODS EXCEL to output formatted tables directly to Excel as a native XLSX file

And/or PDF/RTF and how to change the destination easily.
