PROC COMPARE CRITERION

hi all,

proc compare base=adata compare=cmpnew2.bdata
outdiff outnoequal listequalvar listcompvar
listbasevar
method=absolute
criterion=0.001
out=outfile;
run;

i researched alot of criterion,but nowhere i found what exactly criterion means in layman terms.

my understanding is when

a=2.005

b=2.004

the differance is 0.001.

so ,we are telling sas ,hey don't bother this 0.001 differance and consier it as equal. is that so??

and,

when it was exactly match for numeric value earlier say

a=2

b=2

then ,

it would so all 0, now with criterion it shows 'E'.

what does this 'E' mean??

That's correct if method=absolute.

2. I don't recall seeing a E before. Please give more information.
