We are working on a specific business case and we need SAS Data Quality to connect to Azure Data Lake Store and/or Azure SQL Datawarehouse to retrieve data and perform all data cleansing activities. Please let me know if those software tools/platforms can work together and if this functionality is supported with the latest version of SAS Data Quality Advanced.

So, this means that it is not supported. We need to make an important decision, therefore if you are not 100% sure, let's wait for someone else to response.

To sum up, we need a connector for the below data systems:

• Azure Data Lake Store Gen2 and/or
• Azure SQL Data Warehouse

https://stackify.com/azure-sql-database-vs-warehouse/

@SASUser1001

I thought below answers your question.

But given the importance you probably want an official SAS answer which you can get by:

- Internet search until you find the piece of official documentation which you consider detailed enough to feel comfortable with

- Contact SAS TechSupport (be clear about the importance and commercial impact of the answer)

- Directly contact your local SAS office and get in touch with the responsible SAS account manager

- Be lucky and have someone like @JBailey answer here

I've looked into this link.

Only because these SQL Servers are in the cloud doesn't mean they aren't ODBC compliant anymore. I've just done some "random" Googling and found quite a bit of instructions how to connect to SQL Server in Azure via ODBC.

But yes, if the answer is that important for you then get it from SAS for exactly your environment and versions of SAS/DF and Azure/SQL Server.

Hi @SASUser1001,

Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse are two distinct databases. For example, SAS/ACCESS Interface to Microsoft SQL Server supports Azure SQL Database, but not Azure SQL Data Warehouse. You are probably asking, why? The Data Direct ODBC driver for Microsoft SQL Server that ships with our product does not support Azure Data Warehouse; it will eventually. Once the DD driver supports support Azure SQL Data Warehouse, we plan to look into adding support in SAS/ACCESS to Microsoft SQL Server.

Fortunately, Microsoft provides a free ODBC driver that can be used with SAS/ACCESS Interface to ODBC to support both Azure databases.

Here is the Azure SQL Data Warehouse doc.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/sql-data-warehouse/sql-data-warehouse-connect-overview

There is a link in the above doc that will take you to the following ODBC driver download page.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/odbc/windows/microsoft-odbc-driver-for-sql-server-on-windows?view=sql-server-2017

Here is the money quote, "The ODBC Driver for SQL Server supports connections to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, SQL Server 2017, SQL Server 2016, SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008, and SQL Server 2005."

Hopefully, this will help you.

Best wishes,

Jeff
