I am trying to find a simple way to merge cells in an rtf file using SAS code. An example of what I want to do is found in the following paper. See page 5, example 2.

http://www.lexjansen.com/phuse/2007/po/po07.pdf

I know it can be done because I have combined cells in table headers in PROC REPORT, but I cannot figure out how merge the cells in the body of the table.

Hi:

If you look immediately underneath the example you cited, the paper author provides the program name that he used to create the output. Perhaps if you contacted the paper author, you could obtain his macro program that performed the cell merge using RTF control strings.

I have done a similar report using just PROC REPORT, by making a character variable, for example, with the N and PCTN concatenated into 1 string: NNN (yy.y%) and then using the character string with PROC REPORT instead of the 2 separate variables.

My paper "Creating Complex Reports" has 3 examples of creating such a demographic report and can be downloaded from here:

http://www2.sas.com/proceedings/forum2008/173-2008.pdf

The example programs that accompany can be downloaded from the site:

http://support.sas.com/rnd/papers

and you can find the download by searching for the paper title.

cynthia
