I suggest you get two SSDs. One large for operating system, software and permanent libraries, and one smaller, as fast as you can get, for WORK.

I am going to buy a new computer, what CPU, SSD, RAM should I choose? I mainly use SAS9.4M7 in pharma industry(CRO company).

For now, these are my shopping list:

CPU: i5-13600KF / i7-14700KF (Alternative)

SSD(512GB): Samsung 980PRO / WD_BLACK SN850X (Alternative) / SK hynix Platinum P41 (Alternative)

RAM: 32G(16*2) 6400MHz CL32 / 32G(16*2) 6000MHz CL30 (Alternative)

Other options are welcome.

Pharma is generally small data, right? I would think << 1M rows, probably < 100,000 rows?

Do you have issues with performance constraints on your current PC? Maybe let those issues guide where you spend your money.

Since SAS does so much I/O, I think I'd put my money into fastest SSD. But I'm not a performance junkie...

Thank you, Quentin. Your guessing about the number of observations is right.

And yout just said the key: I/O is the shortness of my computer now. I always notice high hard disk using rate when I'm runing big programs. Maybe I should choose a better SSD like Samsung 990Pro, one of the fastest SSD for now.
