For such a file, you will need the SAS system itself and use the V6 engine in a LIBNAME statement.

This dataset must be 20 years (or so) old.

Hi there,

I am economics PhD student who has bumped into some really old data from the 90s, in the .sd2 format. I normally work with Stata/Julia, and have absolutely no experience with SAS. I would like the sd2 data in a CSV or XLS format, so that I can use it for other analysis.

I see that there was an old question on this forum that dealt with this problem; I've tried the method underlined but it doesn't seem to work. I've especially downloaded the 32-bit version of SAS Universal Viewer, and tried both the latest version and the version from 2014. When I try to open a file using SAS universal viewer, the only file filter option I get is for sas7bdat , and not for sd2. Am I downloading the wrong software, or is it some other compatibility problem that I am not aware of?

I am running windows 10 for a pretty recent 64-bit computer, if that is the problem. Thank you to everyone for helping!
