topic Autosave in New SAS User

In my files and folders, I noted a second copy of a dataset I was working on with the same name but a "~" symbol in front. Is this from autosave?

ex: dataset.xls

new dataset also saved into files: ~dataset.xls

Thanks!

Autosave in SAS refers the .sas files, not .xls or .xlsx files.

The tilde may indicate that the .xls file is in use.

The file with the tilde in the title is not associated with SAS. It is created when Microsoft Excel opens a file and will disappear automatically when Excel shuts down normally.

For example, here are the folder contents while test.xlsx is open in Excel:

And after I close Excel, this is the folder contents:

If Excel crashes with a file open, the file with the ~ in the title remains in the folder.
