topic How do I add a new variable to an interactive grouping node? in SAS Data Science

In EM I used the interactive grouping node to bin a bunch of variables, first automatically and then added additional breaks manually. I then say 'yes' to use frozen groupings. Later I want to group one of the variables that was in my original dataset but I excluded by saying 'no' under the 'use' column in the interactive grouping node. If I say 'yes' now and try to run I get an error saying that I must turn off frozen groupings because fine groups don't exist. But if I turn off frozen groupings I lost my manual breaks.

Is there a way I can have my cake and eat it too?

Thanks,

Great question! Here is what you need to do:

1. Click on the desired Interactive Grouping node.

2. Set the Create Grouping Data property to Yes

3. Rerun the flow.

4. Save the exported grouping data set to a location you can access from SAS Enterprise Miner (outside of the project folder, preferably)

5. Set the new variable(s) to be used (e.g. set their role to Input and/or set the Use property to Yes as needed)

6. Change the Use Frozen Groupings property to No

7. In the Pre-defined Groupings section, change the Import Grouping Data property to Yes

8. Use the Import Data Set property in the Pre-defined Groupings section to specify the grouping data you just saved in step 4 above.

9. Rerun the flow.

SAS Enterprise Miner will use the pre-defined groupings for the variables you worked on previously and it will compute new information for the new variables.

I hope this helps!
