SAS SPDS Server advantages

Hi,

I am new to SAS SPDS server. I have been using SAS Base servers in my previous organisations. Now I have been hearing about SAS SPDS sever. I googled but couldn't get the actual purpose of it.

Please help me in understanding in this area.

SPDS is meant to take advantage of a multithreading environment with storage that can either supply the bandwidth in a single volume, or consists of multiple volumes.

The datasets are stored in "buckets", and during access each bucket is processed by a separate thread, speeding up the I/O.

In my opinion, SPDS should be used in situations where you're finding it too slow to access your data. It's a lot of work to set it up, but once done you should see significantly faster access to your data.

If you're happy with your data access performance right now, stick with SAS datasets. They are much easier to create and manage.
