We have a daily disk space issue. Our implementation of sas cleanwork utitlity was unsuccessful. We all suffer every time a disk full error happen - no one can work. We had to ask all the users to stop running their code/s, close all their sas session/s (by force) and let the Unix Admin to clear or delete ALL the folders created inside saswork.

We tried expanding the hard disk, backup our huge data using 8mm tapes. We are getting a new server now.

Is it possible to tweak the default settings of a sas config file that when a user log-in to a SAS his or her saswork session will be directed to a dedicated path? This way the saswork disk space problem will be limited to a specific team not the whole department.

Activate quota enforcement on your WORK (and UTILLOC) location, and give your users a reasonable disk quota that will allow them to do their work.

That way only individual users can run out of disk space, but you won't have "global" showstoppers.

And the hotline calls of certain users will alert you to things they do in a sub-optimal way.

I have enforced quotas on WORK and the home directories for decades now, and it has saved me (probably) hundreds of work hours and provided for a stable environment.

As stated in the other thread, cleanwork should NOT cause any problems. If it actually removed a "live" WORK, you absolutely MUST make a call to SAS technical support, as it points to a major problem.
