I check the exam guide, there is nothing related it. But when I do the practice questions, there are some related it. Thanks so much.

Hi:
When you say that you are "less familiar with Enterprise or 9.4", I assume you mean SAS Enterprise Guide or SAS Display Manager on Windows, also known as the SAS Windowing Environment.

An editor is an editor is an editor is an editor (with apologies to Gertrude Stein). All of the SAS Editors have a place to type code; all of the SAS Editors have a way for you to review the SAS log after the code runs. All of the SAS Editors have a way to review results. The look and feel of the editors is different. How you launch each editor is a bit different. How you submit code is a bit different (click the little running man or click the Run menu item). How and where you save code is different. How you address files is slightly different. But this is all minor and you can learn to work with the differences.

SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Studio, SAS Display Manager on Windows are all just different ways to communicate with SAS -- different graphical user interfaces. SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Studio can work with your code and send it to the main SAS executable program. That main SAS program can reside in any of these places:
1) a local install on a Windows C: drive
2) a network install on a company server
3) a Business Intelligence platform install (like #2, only with a metadata server and more security and other servers in the mix)
4) a cloud install, such as using SAS Studio and Enterprise Guide with SAS on a cloud server (such as our SAS OnDemand for Academics cloud server or an company cloud either on-premises or hosted remotely)

#1, #2 and #3 above are typically company or school configurations. #4 could be a company configuration, but it is also the way we deliver free access to SAS for non-commercial learning purposes. I would NOT recommend uploading your own data, especially patient data to our SODA server just because you only want to use SAS Studio.

SAS University Edition on a Virtual Machine uses SAS Studio to communicate with SAS inside the Unix Virtual Machine. However, SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS on Windows will NOT communicate with SAS this way when using SAS University Edition.

I could type my SAS programs in Notepad or Wordpad or Textpad or even in Word. But I can't submit the code to SAS from any of those editors. However, assuming I saved my typed program and I knew the location of the SAS executable program and I have the right permissions, I could go to a command window and batch submit my SAS program (in most of the above usage scenarios).

We have lots of videos that show how to use Enterprise Guide and if you are a student at NCSU, as your username implies, then you could access training via NCSU's license. You could send mail to elearn@sas.com to find out how a student can access Enterprise Guide training.

Hope this helps convince you to give Enterprise Guide a try. SAS Studio isn't your only resource.
Cynthia

If you're using Academics on Demand, this your data is in the SAS cloud and this likely violates your companies policies. Since you're mentioning a training environment, I suspect your colleague is correct and your data would be sent externally.
If you're using SAS University Edition then no data is sent externally, but usage statistics are sent to the server.
If you're using a custom installation of SAS Studio then no data is sent externally.

hi Paige!

Sorry for everyhting, I accepted your first post cause I did add a mean function and it worked.

/*1, tranposer pour avoir une seule ligne par lactation*/
proc sort data=qulac;
by no_ferme cow lac;

proc transpose data=qulac out=qulact prefix=LS_;
var SCC_linear_score;
by no_ferme cow lac;
run;
/*2 calculer une moyenne par lactation*/
data qulact;
set qulact;
lsmean=mean(ls_1, ls_2, ls_3, ls_4, ls_5, ls_6, ls_7, ls_8, ls_9, ls_10, ls_11, ls_12, ls_13);
run;

So you have answered my question, thanks again. I was writing a part of my "first" code because I tought that is what you have asked, but obviously it is not... I'm not really familiar with the use of macros and my data are sensitive, but in the future i will try my best to meet your demands.

Best regards,

Annie

Hello all, I'm learning to use SAS Studio as it's the coding environment the training modules were taught in and I'm not the most computer literate person, so to make things easier on myself I've been using it alone. My coworker who requested that I take the training says that I cannot use the SAS Studio environment for our data as it takes the form of patient records and is therefore shared with SAS when I use Studio. Is this true? I'd like to continue using it if I can since I'm much less familiar with Enterprise or 9.4 which are also on this PC. Please advise.

You several problems in your example. If 2020-04-31 is supposed to be 31 April 2020 then that date is not a valid date to begin with.

If you want SAS to modify date values then you should look at the INTNX function.

https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Communities-Library/Working-with-Dates-and-Times-in-SAS-Tutorial/ta-p/424354 has a PDF with much information about dates.

Since you are apparently passing this to Teradata then there is strong likelihood that somewhere you have a data value that is not handled correctly as well. I have no idea what a date like

<LI-CODE lang="sas"> 1200431</LI-CODE>

is supposed to represent, so I am assuming that is some sort of Teradata convention.

A basic date change example in SAS:

data example;
   thisdate = '30APR2020'd ;
   otherdate = intnx('month',thisdate,10,'s');
   format thisdate otherdate date9.;
run;

The last parameter of the INTNX function is an alignment, you can have a date returned that is the begining of the period, use 'B', the end of the period, use 'E' or the same point in the target period, use 'S'. Since the example is using the last data of a month the 'same' is the last day of the target month.

Typically when a phrase like "between the age of 18 - 50 years" is used then the data should be subsetted to that range, typically with a Where statement or data set option. Your frequencies for Age don't show any ages outside that range so go so far.

However you apparently have multiple "gender" variables and we have no way of knowing which is the "current" value. From the request, that is the only one that should be used.

Since the request says "a frequency table of current gender and sexual orientation " I would normally interpret that as meaning first, one table, not 6 plus and graphs, and second that you have gender and orientation in a single table. If race is not part of the request do not include it, if required then describe how race is supposed to be included.

In Proc Freq that would be a Tables statement like: Tables genderc*sex_o;

With the stated requirement and the shown output, if I were grading this as an assignment it would likely get a D because no where do you have gender and orientation together.

If the requirement does not want graphs then turn of the graphs before running proc freq.

Your TYPE portion doesn't make sense since those are variable names. Not sure what you were expecting to happen within that portion of code but it doesn't do what you think it does 🙂

I'm guessing the error means SAS doesn't think you have a variable called TYPE in your syphilis data base. You can check this in your IMPORT code or via PROC CONTENTS. You'll want to check the label versus name as well, this is a common mistake to use the labels instead of names.

Hi  all,

I am struggling in some date conversion.

Is there a way of conversion for this subtraction as Tenure_length_months results in a numeric number in the same format as Teradata output. Despite this code works on SAS, the final result for column Tenure_lenght_month does not manky any sense on my model with SAS results.

When I run on Teradata column Tenure_length_months give me numbers like 125,31,48 which is absolutely fine however SAS gives me results like 6278800, 6252333 that could be right on a SAS approach but is not what I would like to see as an output for this column.

Example:

Considering today as 2020-04-31 I would have a customer that is with us in 10 months

Teradata results

ten_date

Start_Month_End

tenure_mth

Tenure_length_months

Tenure_Months

02/07/2019

31/07/2019

201,907.00

10.98

10

Considering today as 2020-04-31 I would have a customer that is with us the same 10 months but SAs calculate in another way so gives me results like 627880.

SAS results

ten_date

Start_Month_End

tenure_mth

Tenure_length_months

Tenure_Months

02JUL2019  31JUL2019     201907      627880.40  627880

How I should write to see the same results as Teradata please?

proc delete

What values should T1, T2 have in next added observations ?

Steps to result will be:

Yes,

i need every instance repeated 11 times because I want the data to reflect the patient at different time intervals. the intervals for the experiment are the same for each patient and we took their vitals at each instance so there are other variables. however some patients died during before the full time length of experiment so there is no data for times above when they died. I still want to include them to 11 times for continuity and mark them as Status=0 for dead at this time interval. Im trying to put the data in a counting style.

The data wu

ID.
T1

T2

Status

Trt

Number

Size

Z

1

0

3

1

1

1

3

12.3

1

3

10

1

1

1

3

14.7

1

10

15

1

1

1

3

13.8

1

15

23

0

1

1

3

15.5

2

0

3

1

1

1

5

12.3

2

3

10

1

1

1

3

14.7

2

10

15

0

1

1

3

13.8

2

15

23

0

1

1

3

15.5

What other variables are in your dataset? Should they be missing or with any initial value?

Please post an sample of your dataset.

Why do you want the IDs to be in 11 observations ? what is the logic or needs?

One way to do it is to select distinct IDs, replicate them to have 11 times each and then

remerge them with your dataset by ID and maybe some other variable (like a date).

Some people will fill in the mean of the data in place of the missings and also create a new variable which is 0 if the original variable was not missing and 1 if the original variable was missing. Then you put the original variable and the new variable into the model. This essentially predicts the observations with the original variable missing at a constant offset from the observations when the original variable was not missing.

From what you describe, the people are not "missing" the question, they are deliberately choosing not to answer it. This is information that might be useful for your model.

You can try recoding this variable to "not answered" (or whatever) then run the logistic regression.

If you want to write a text file use the PUT statement. If you want to use a "FORTRAN like format list" then () in around the variable names and separate () around the formats.

data _null_;
  set HAVE ;
  file 'myfile';
  put (varlist) (fmtlist);
run;

To write a delimited file use the DSD option. No need to for formats so just list the variables.

data _null_;
  set HAVE ;
  file 'myfile' dsd ;
  put varlist ;
run;

If you want to list all of them you can use the _ALL_ keyword, but then you need to use the () or else it writes name=value instead and includes automatic variables like _N_. No need to list formats, but you need to put something in the format list so use a pointer control like +0 or a modifier like : .

  put (_all_) (+0);

Hello,

I am running a logistic regression with four predictor variables, 1 outcome variable, and 6 covariates. My N is around 2000 participants.

For one of my four predictor variables, there are around 1000 people missing the question. The question asked was very sensitive and it is normal for people to skip it on surveys per other papers. The situation is similar for one of my covariates, where a question on a sensitive topic is also skipped by a substantial number of people.

Right now when I run it, my data set ends up cut in half. My major professor will not let me do multiple imputations and wants me to do Full Information Maximum Likelihood to account for the missing data.

Does anyone have any advice on if I can do this in SAS?

Thank you!

This blog post will help answer Questions 3/4

https://blogs.sas.com/content/iml/2017/01/09/ods-output-any-statistic.html

Q2:

I usually recommend using PROC EXPORT to get the structure of code needed - printed to the log and then customize as needed.

https://documentation.sas.com/?docsetId=proc&docsetTarget=n0jcjrzsseiw2qn1gi12k645u75y.htm&docsetVersion=9.4&locale=en

Q3:

The code is slightly backwards, you reversed the table name and the name of the output data set. It should be:

*incorrect;
ods output bprawfreqs=OneWayFreq;

*correct;
ods output OneWayFreq = bprawfreqs;

No idea what you mean with Q1.

FYI - its likely significantly easier to answer your questions if you take some time to format them and to post them separately unless they're related like 3/4.

<LI-USER uid="273054"></LI-USER> wrote:

this is a stored-up list.

1) Somewhere, i've seen that it is possible get rid of that centered output and have left justified output in the results viewer window. What was showed was the specific command that went in the syntax file. Stumbling around, i found a directory or file called options. I'm looking for a permanent fix. Do modify the options file? What option name and how done?

2) Today, i wanted to write out a text data file. In spss i'd say

write outfile='path string' var list (optional Fortran-type format specification). Nice and simple and highly controllable. I see in Cody's book how to export an excel file. Mplus, the receiving program, takes only text files. In SAS, how would i write out a text data file and, if desired, control variable formats and new lines. For example: recid y1-y50 (f4.0,2x,25f3.0/6x,25f3.0).

3) I want to export a set of frequency tables to a dataset. Based on Cody's book I used this

52 ods output bprawfreqs=OneWayFreq;
53 proc freq data=pbitems; tables dpb4-dpb16; run;

WARNING: Output 'bprawfreqs' was not created. Make sure that the output object name, label, or path is spelled correctly. Also, verify that the appropriate procedure options
are used to produce the requested output object. For example, verify that the
NOPRINT option is not used.

So. i believe the object name is correct because i did and ODS Trace command. I assume that the file (bprawfreqs is just a sas data set and it's location is controlled by the active lib statement (Correct or not?)

I read the documentation for proc freq and see that there is an "out' subcommand for a table statement. However, as i understand the documentation what is written out to the named dataset is only the last named frequency/crosstab table in the table subcommand. That's useless and it's hard to believe that is true.

4) I want to come back to the output export problem. Recently i was running GEE models Working through the iterations of IV variable combinations, i had a list of 26 or 27 and I had to run each combination with two different DVs. The PIs requested that i summarize the results and what they wanted to see the coefficients and their significance values. (I want to say something to head off Proc Report: The coefficients and their significance are looked at and discussed, decisions are made, and the syntax and mht files could be deleted because they served their function). In spss i could say OMS "analysis type" select if table="coefficients" ahead of the first GEE model and OMS End after the last one. In Cody i read that i can specify ods select >object< (persist); and that will do what i want. True?

That does it for now. Thanks.

several questions: options control, format control, ods procedure tables output data sets

this is a stored-up list.

52 ods output bprawfreqs=OneWayFreq;
53 proc freq data=pbitems; tables dpb4-dpb16; run;

This is where you need a macro. You need one SET statement, but multiple datasets in it.

%macro dsnames;
%do i = 1 %to 8;

%mend;

data vzk_2020;
set
  %dsnames
;
run;

Take note where I placed semicolons, and where I omitted them.

When you post code please use a code block so that your code is formatted and legible.

proc means data=wide_merged_file_sans_pooled mean stddev median min max;
var gmcsf_fuvisit_f0 gmcsf_fuvisit_f1 gmcsf_fuvisit_f2 gmcsf_fuvisit_f3 gmcsf_fuvisit_f5
gmcsf_fuvisit_f6 gmcsf_fuvisit_f7 gmcsf_fuvisit_f8;
run;

1. Save output from PROC MEANS to a data set

2. Graph data from data set

#1 is to add an ODS OUTPUT statement to capture the output, there are multiple ways to do this but this provides the data in a nice format for graphing. You do need to add the STACKODS option on the PROC MEANS statement as well.

proc means data=wide_merged_file_sans_pooled mean stddev median min max STACKODS;
var gmcsf_fuvisit_f0 gmcsf_fuvisit_f1 gmcsf_fuvisit_f2 gmcsf_fuvisit_f3 gmcsf_fuvisit_f5
gmcsf_fuvisit_f6 gmcsf_fuvisit_f7 gmcsf_fuvisit_f8;
ods output summary = summaryStats;
run;

#2 Graph it

proc sgplot data=summaryStats;

Hello,

How do i remove a decimal from a variable?

For example - go from:

ID

3.4

66.5

z4.1

to:

ID

34

665

z41

Is this possible using the cat or catx function?

I appreciate if you help me with doing the following three things (I apologize in advance if I shouldn't ask multiple questions under one topic). Also sorry I cannot share a sample of my data due to NDA.

1. My dataset includes a column named "brand_name". I want to create a new column ("id") which uniquely identifies each brand. So it should take on the same value for all the 250 rows associated with each brand.

2. I need a new variable which assigns a number (from 1 to 250) to each observation for each brand. My dataset includes two columns "Year0" and "week". For each brand, my data starts from the 6th week of 2014 up until 52nd week of 2014. Then, from week 0 of 2015 to week 52 of 2015, and so on. In other words, when "Year0" is 2014, "week" starts from 6 all the way to 52. Then for the next row, in which "Year0" is 2015, "week" is 0 (so the variable week starts over with a change in Year0). The new variable should assign 1 whenever Year0 is 2014 and week is 6, and continue this until the last observation, for which it should be 250.

3. I have several variables which are in percentage (they have been calculated using avg() format=percent7.2 ). I need to convert these to numbers. so for example 91.70% should be converted to 0.917.

Thanks so much in advance for your help.

0 Likes

As soon as personal names are involved, sooner or later things will get interesting. Without a proper delimiter between first-name and last-name this problem can't be solved, because the number of words forming first-name and last-name is rarely two (one word for each), starting the interesting part: from the second to the next-to-last word you have to decide, whether the word belongs to first-name or last-name. This is pure guesswork and will not lead to usable results.

The following step extracts the names and stores in in one variable:

data want;
   set have;

   length FullName $ 40 rxName 8;
   retain rxName;
   drop rxName;

   if _n_ = 1 then do;
      rxName = prxparse('/requestor:_(.+)_reason/i');
   end;

   if prxmatch(rxName, note) then do;
      FullName = prxposn(rxName, 1, note);
      FullName = translate(FullName, ' ', '_');
   end;
run;

1) If the AGE is a group given as "18-50" then use

    where age = "18-50";

     If AGE is a number like 25 then you can use

     where age between 18 and 50;

     You got the solution to your question.

Your variable is named age. What kind of values does it contain?

The WHERE statement may be either

where age is between 18 and 50

or

where age is "18 to 50"

depending on age variable - is it an age of a person or

is it a group age/

You can use either proc import:

proc import file="Path_and_FileName.csv"
            out=test dbms=csv
            replace;
     getnames=yes; /* assume first line contains variable names */
run;

Try it and if any issue post the full log showing your code and messages.

Depending on data types you may have issues especially getting the wrong type.

If possible post also a sample lines from the csv file.

Yes it's possible. Use an Import Data task is likely your best bet if you're unfamiliar with SAS.
Or use PROC IMPORT. That creates a SAS data set that can then be worked with in SAS.

When SAS tells you a file is not there, it's not there.

Did you copy/paste the file path from the navigation pane in SAS Studio?

Mind that the Linux system of SAS ODA is case sensitive, so correct spelling of pathnames is essential.

This means your SAS runs in the AWS cloud on Linux and does not have access to your desktop environment, which includes the S: drive.

You need to upload your file first with SAS Studio. After that, you can get the correct path to it by right-clicking on it in the SAS Studio navigation pane.

Which kind of SAS installation are you using?

University Edition in a downloaded virtual machine

SAS on Demand for Academics

licensed SAS in a local installation

licensed SAS in a client/server installation

All these need different methods for accessing external files and defining libnames, so it is essential for us to know how you use SAS.

The filename should be in quotes

proc import datafile= "s:\CSV Import\rapid_syphilis.csv"

The only output Proc Import will create is a SAS data set. Not CSV.

So you specify a library name and data set name.

out= libname.dataset

which uses a single dot between the SAS library name and the data set name. Multiple dots are right out. Data set names can only have letters, digits and the _ character.

If you later want to send SAS data out to a CSV file you would use Proc Export.
