Configuring SAS/ACCESS Interface to SAP R/3 to Use SNC

Hello SAS Admin Friends,

Do any of you have experience with configuring the SAS/ACCESS Interface to SAP R/3 to work with SNC (specifically: running SAS on UNIX, but ANY experience at all with this would be helpful)?

Our interface was working fine when we did NOT have SNC enabled in the SAP environment, but now we have moved to SNC and are struggling to get it working for SAS. We've been dealing with this since February and really need to get it working, as a) this has taken way too long and b) SNC just went live in our SAP production environment so now our SAS access to the SAP data is hosed.

Here's where we're at with it:

All other non-SAP environments have been successfully updated to work with SAP SNC, so we know the SAP configuration is correct.

With assistance from SAS Tech Support and a SAS dev, we have recently managed to successfully execute a libname statement and data step against our SNC-enabled SAP/BW QA server, but... only when directly logged onto the server and running the statements from the SAS program editor.

When we try to connect with a libname statement via the SAS desktop apps (EG, MC, DIS), we get errors.

The first error was basically that SAS couldn't locate the sapnwrfc.ini file, which at the suggestion of SAS Tech Support was resolved by placing a copy of the ini file in the startup path used by the desktop applications (which for some unknown annoying reason is not the same as that used by SAS on the server itself). The need for this duplication does not seem to be documented anywhere.

The current error is that now that SAS can locate the copy of the ini file, it still cannot acquire initiating credentials from the cred_v2 file (which we know is a valid and working file, because it works for SAS on the server).

The error is still on the SAS side of the interface, as our SAP environment shows no attempts at connection as it should (and as it does when we run the libname statement directly on the SAS server).

This is the current credentials error (server details snipped):

ERROR: RFC_COMMUNICATION_FAILURE

Hello,

For deployment of Viya 3.5 in multi-tenancy mode, the tenant onboarding got stuck for 2 or more services in the onboarding state

(a) tenant onboarding was successfully completed with any errors in the onboarding log.

(b) The error I see is "bootstrap error" for services stuck in their individual logs.

(c) A restart of individual services or all sas-viya services didn't help.

So, I proceeded for 2nd tenant onboarding to check if the same issue persists for it. But, 2nd tenant onboarded successfully without any error.

Has anyone came across a similar issue and resolved this would be a great help for their resolution.

SQL statements sent to unixODBC were coded?

Hi everyone,

My name is Mason. I am a new admin for SAS, We just setup a SAS 9.4 on Linux server, we use unixODBC to connect to DB, the version 2.3.1 comes with RHEL7 didn’t work at all, so we downloaded and built unixODBC 2.3.7 on this server and modify LD_LIBARAY_PATH so sasodb will see it Eathan’s than the old 2.3.1, now we are able to connect to the ODBC data source which is a DB2 on AS/400. However when we started to run query, it won’t work at all. It prompted “token invalid”, but the SQL statement we entered was very simple and proved to be running well through query tool.

ERROR: CLI prepare error: [IBM][System i Access ODBC Driver][DB2 for i5/OS]SQL0104 - Token was not valid. Valid tokens: ( CL END GET SET CALL DROP FREE HOLD LOCK OPEN WITH ALTER BEGIN. : [IBM][System i Access ODBC Driver][DB2 for i5/OS]PWS0005 - Error
occurred in the database host server code.
SQL statement: SELECT * FROM TEST.QSRVSRC.

I checked with IBM support and we turned on ODBC trace to see what was fed to ODBC, it is strange that ODBC got a different meaningless string as SQL statement, which is for sure won’t be able to go through. Below is in ODBC trace log

ODBC][18654][1596812654.551234][SQLPrepareW.c][165]
Entry:
Statement = 0x7fea00000e60
SQL = [SLC RMUI00.N_PCNTSQFRRA NY][length = 54]
[ODBC][18654][1596812654.571800][SQLPrepareW.c][346]
Exit:[SQL_ERROR]
DIAG [42000] [IBM][System i Access ODBC Driver][DB2 for i5/OS]SQL0104 - Token was not valid. Valid tokens: ( CL END GET SET CALL DROP FREE HOLD LOCK OPEN WITH ALTER BEGIN.
DIAG [HY000] [IBM][System i Access ODBC Driver][DB2 for i5/OS]PWS0005 - Error occurred in the database host server code.

The SAS on PC(MS Windows) are working with the same DB (also through ODBC) without any problem.

Is there anything that can be configured wrong to cause this kind of issue? Any help is highly appreciated.
SAS Viya CAS Worker nodes migration on AWS

We are planning to migrate our CAS Worker Nodes to larger instance, I have couple of questions

While spinning up new instance for cas worker nodes we will setup same hostname as before, do we also need to maintain same IP address or hostname should be good?

As of now all our servers – microservice, cas controller, worker1 and worker2 are on AWS cloud within same placement group and while migrating the cas worker to another instance family within the same placement group we don’t have the instance family we needed and facing capacity issue. So AWS is recommending to spin up the server outside of placement group.

How would be the impact if we spin up the cas workers away from placement group i.e away from cas controller and microservices ( controller and microservices are staying in same placement group). is that considerable ?

If we Spin up the workers outside of placement there would be some latency in communication when compared to servers within placement group but still we have the server. Not sure if we can go with this approach. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Nikhil.

If you've been around for a while, you know that SUGA (SAS User Group for Administrators) was created as a virtual user group. While we've had in-person meetings the past few years at SAS Global Forum, we've mostly held hour-long webinars for the past 4 years.

2020 is a bit different (to say the least). For the first time, we're having a 1/2 day virtual conference! It's free and open to everyone around the world. You'll get the chance to hear from SAS experts Margaret Crevar, Mark Schneider and Rob Collum. And it will truly be live, so you'll have the chance to ask these folks questions and chat with other attendees (text-based) during a break in the action.

I hope you'll join us on September 23, from noon to 4:00pm ET.

Error in running Web Applications due to WIP Data Service which is not getting up

Hi,

We are using SAS 9.4M6 with having multiple tier architecture. We recently faced an issue where few of the services on compute nodes were not getting up automatically when we tried to start SAS Grid via sgmg.sh on those nodes. Later, it was figured out that the NTP services on the servers were not turned up after server patching activity was finished (Linux based servers), due to which the time on all the server was not matching. This happened in our Validation environment too. When the NTP services were turned on the VAL servers, we rebooted the SAS services and everything worked into VAL.

However, when we tried the same steps in Production environment (NTP turned on the PROD servers and then SAS services rebooted), though the spawner services were back on compute nodes but, the web services started showing problems as none of the web applications were accessible. Later on it was discovered that the WIP data service was not turning on. Although we did a complete reboot of SAS services, it did not help. We are receiving the below errors every time we go for WIP data services.

Any idea how to get rid of this issue? We have raised a call with SAS Institute on high priority, however, still waiting for their response. So, thought of getting ideas on the SAS community.

2020-08-03 06:35:12.376 UTCLOG: database system was interrupted; last known up at 2020-08-02 20:28:08 UTC

2020-08-03 06:35:20.907 UTCLOG: record with incorrect prev-link 4F94/740FE085 at 8C/CF9BD098

2020-08-03 06:35:20.907 UTCLOG: invalid primary checkpoint record

2020-08-03 06:35:20.908 UTCLOG: invalid xl_info in secondary checkpoint record

2020-08-03 06:35:20.908 UTCPANIC: could not locate a valid checkpoint record

2020-08-03 06:35:22.489 UTCLOG: startup process (PID 107579) was terminated by signal 6: Aborted

2020-08-03 06:35:22.489 UTCLOG: aborting startup due to startup process failure

2020-08-03 06:35:31.134 UTCLOG: incomplete startup packet

SAS Studio processes not terminating

SAS 9.4M5 on Windows Server 2012R2, client access via EG 7.15 or SAS Studio 3.71 (mid-tier)

I've recently noticed old SAS processes remaining on our compute server and realised that this coincided with more people using SAS Studio. A bit of experimentation has got me thinking that this is because when users finish their sessions they are simply closing their browser session rather than logging off.

I can distribute a message asking people to remember to log off but chances are this will only be partly effective. Is there a way to ensure that these processes are terminated? I suppose I could run a daily search for SAS processes from earlier than the current day but that has the potential to kill bona fide long-running processes.

How to I create a custom Identity-Based Substitution Variable in SAS Viya

Hello, I am new to SAS as well as SAS Viya. I am in the process of trying to add row-level security for a group of users. (SAS Viya

Scenario:

I have 50 different users within a group, and this group has access to a caslib that consists of 50 tables (within db).

I am trying to take advantage of the substitution variables within SAS, however, I need a variable called state_cd. (each user has access to 1 to many state_cds)

Question: Is it possible to create a metadata table with the needed data and utilize it to create a dynamic Identity Based Substitution filter?

Similar to this:

FacilityRegion In ('SUB::SAS.IdentityGroups')

(but instead of SAS.IdentityGroups, change it to METADATA_TBL.StateCd)

Below is a link to the sas documentation.

https://go.documentation.sas.com/?cdcId=calcdc&cdcVersion=3.4&docsetId=calauthzcas&docsetTarget=n1bf0cwn6ae85gn1b64x2j0czu24.htm&locale=en#p0typu0legb624n139nqaw1p19pt

We have a SAS deployment at our DR site. It is not licensed since it's only use is in the event of a disaster. I'm told by SAS that, once a disaster occurs, they will issue a temporary license for the environment so it may be used until production is back up. My question is, how do others manage the installation of hotfixes/updates to their DR environments without, at least, a temporary license so that SAS could be launched and tested briefly post hotfix installation? Are others simply leveraging the built in OQ/IQ utilities and calling it good?

Curious to know.

Thanks!

SAS Authentication using PAM_LDAP

Hi All,

We have installed and configured SAS 9.4 M5 Grid version in Linux Environment.

So far we have used PAM Authentication and its working fine.

As part of RFC 2307 implememtation we had to use the LDAP authentication and after SAS is not able to connect Application Server. It is not able to authenticate the user.

https://support.sas.com/documentation/installcenter/en/ikfdtnunxcg/66380/PDF/default/config.pdf

As per the above link

The sas-services-daemon utility does not directly support LDAP. If LDAP is a
requirement, SAS recommends that you use the PAM LDAP module.

Could you please suggest the way to configure the PAM LDAP Module.

Hi All

So I just went through the first instance or updating my SAS University Edition.

The instructions were very poor... so in Virtual Box, I deleted the old machine, and re-imported the newly downloaded one. Only to find that all my library links, programs and data is gone!!!

Is there anyway to get this back?

Hi Everyone,

can someone enlighten me, as of why the Flow Editor is not being installed, when setting up Platform Suite for SAS including SAS Process Manager?

Reading the PM User's Guide from IBM,

it states, that there are THREE applications:

I know, that flows are created by using the Schedule Manager Tab in SMC.

Hi All,

I have deploy and scheduled a flow which is file based event and also the scheduled time to run the flow is daily at 13:00 hours. The flow gets triggered at 13:00 hours but the flow sometimes fails due to non-availability of required file.

Is there a way to put the flow on wait for 10 mins or 30 mins, if the file is not found and then again re-run automatically after waiting time. For example sleep for 10 mins or 30 mins.

Kind regards,

Rabi.

I am running Enterprise Miner 15.1 with jre 8_73 on Windows 10. The resolution when launched is so bad I can't view or use the software. I have tried changing the resolution to 1920 x 1200 , and about 15 others, no resolution is very adequate in my opinion. Is this a java version problem? Anyone else have a configuration of software that allows you to properly view Enterprise Miner? I can't find any guides with a recommend resolution size.

Deny Concurrent SAS Stored Process Web Application Sessions

I would like to Deny concurrent SAS Stored Process Web Application Login Sessions for a single user in the SAS 9.4 M4 Linux Platform. Since when a user logged in to multiple times into a same Stored Process concurrently, the data being not saved properly causing the data loss. I tried to mitigate this issue by setting 'Policy.ConcurrentLoginUsers' to 'deny' in the SMC>Application Management>SAS Application Infrastructure>Stored Process Web App 9.4>Properties>Advanced tab whereas 'Policy.ConcurrentLoginUsers' to 'logoff' in the SMC>Application Management>SAS Application Infrastructure>Properties>Advanced tab. My assumption is to allow concurrent SAS applications with valid credentials and deny concurrent Stored Process Web App. However, it's still allowing concurrent logins for the same user to the Stored Process Web Application. The Authentication method being used is 'Logon Manger'. If I set 'Policy.ConcurrentLoginUsers' to 'deny' in the SMC>Application Management>SAS Application Infrastructure>Properties>Advanced tab then the user can login to only Web Application, which is not the requirement as the same user will have access to several individual Stored Process Web Applications in the same environment. I restarted Mid-Tier every time whenever I made these changes in the SMC to make it effective but no luck.

I would really appreciate your valuable inputs here.

We have batch jobs that were running fine without any issue for a long time. From last week onwards we are seeing that the jobs are long running. Our's is a sas environment hosted on linux machine. We have not made any changes to the code recently. The only thing i can see within the logs is that the real time of the procedure or data step has increased. We have checked wih Unix admins and they have told that no other process is running on the server. We have also run the jobs at different times to see if its a timing isue. But did not get any difference. Only thing we can notice is high i/o utilization on sas work library mount which was not there previously. Have anyone faced this issue or guide me on what to check further to imprve the performance

now:

real time 37:04.73
user cpu time 9:49.74
system cpu time 5:39.84
memory 2110359.71k
OS Memory 2120860.00k
Timestamp 07/06/2020 09:43:48 PM
Page Faults 31
Page Reclaims 2235141
Page Swaps 0
Voluntary Context Switches 8831289
Involuntary Context Switches 1730716
Block Input Operations 335352296
Block Output Operations 722203936

before :

real time 9:30.78
user cpu time 8:15.08
system cpu time 5:14.26
memory 2110359.71k
OS Memory 2120860.00k
Timestamp 06/30/2020 08:40:02 PM
Page Faults 33
Page Reclaims 2068727
Page Swaps 0
Voluntary Context Switches 8136300
Involuntary Context Switches 897939
Block Input Operations 332189320
Block Output Operations 727054200

I have EG installed on my Windows10 computer. When I want to open a *.sas file, Windows wants to open an instance of EG. The only options Windows gives me are EG or "search the web for apps" and then it only gives me 2 free options neither of which open *.sas files without upgrading to the paid version. (Earlier versions of Windows allowed me to browse my hard drive to choose the default program.)

I am having problems configuring my ODBC connection for my sas viya CAS server. I keep getting datasource name not found when i run my caslib. I configured the cas_usermods.settings on all cas servers (i have a cas controller and 2 workers). My isql works from all three servers to the database. I did a strace on the launchsvc service and its showing that the processes are looking at the correct odbc.ini and odbcinst.ini file. Any ideas?

Hi!

We are using LSF for batch scheduling, with the lsfadm user. When running jobs that connects to databases (MSsql, Oracle) we want to use Active Directory users for access to the databases. What we have done till now:

Created local database users and registered these in SAS metadata.

We have made authentication domains for each user login (to source databases).

We made a metadata user group with the database user account with the correct authentication domain

Then we have placed the lsfadm user in this goup.

This works, but when we want to use AD-users for accessing databases we can’t get it to work. When trying to use AD users instead of local database users the batch is not using the database user, but instead uses the lsfadm user in the connection string/libname. We then get errors in the libname statement. We have also tried to put the AD-users account directly on the lsfadm user, but no luck.

I want to set a up a share server in linux. I want that the users need userid and password to use the share server, but the files should be accessed with the user rights of the share server.

Running the share server with AUTHENTICATE=OPTIONAL, everybody can use the share server and access all files available to the share server. Running it with AUTHENTICATE=REQ, only users known to the system can use the share server and access the files the users are allowed to access.

What I want is a mix:

only users known to the system can use the share server (i.e. they have to use userid+apsswd), and they can access all files available to the share server.

I.e. accessing the files, the share server does not check against the user rights.

Is this possible?

Hello Everyone,

I an completely new to the handling of the SAS Environment Manager. I do have the following problem:

I can see from our SQL Database log, which runs on server X, that there are regular unsuccessful attempts of the SASDEMO-User to log onto our database, which originate from our SAS compute server, which runs on server Y. I know, that they originate from server Y, because the database log shows the "CLIENT: IP-Adress" , which is the one from server Y.

When checking the times in the SQL Server Log, I can see that they exactly correlate to ERROR-Events in the Environment Manager:

My question is: how can I turn of these attempts?
How are they generated in the first place?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

FK

Hi folks,

I understand the only way to access / work with Azure Data Lake is using Viya. Does it correct? Or there is any way to connect using SAS 9.4?

Which are the prerequisite (version, components, etc) for Viya/SAS 9.4 in order to use Azure Data Lake?

SAS Viya Model Manager Alter Score Code

Hi,

I am trying to add two new variable and basic logic to the score code of a model registered in SAS Viya's (v3.5) Model Manager (v15.3). I need to publish the model to both CAS and MAS. The logic has worked for the CAS deployment, but not MAS. The model was registered in Model Studio and only the default files are contained in the model project.

I am trying to add these two variable: 'Score' and 'Band'

The logic for the variables are:

      Score = round("P_EFT1", 0.01);

      if "P_EFT1" > 0.3 then Band = 1;
      else if "P_EFT1" > 0.15 then Band = 2;
else Band = 3;

The variable 'P_EFT1' is a default output variable from Model Studio.

I have altered the dmcas_epscorecode.sas file, which resulted in the publish to CAS working, but not MAS. I flagged the changes I made with '
/*Added Manually*/
'.

data sasep.out;

Or maybe even point me to the relevant documentation.

Kind Regards,

Kyle

Hi,

Company are upgrading database from oracle 12c to 19c so I need to test on SAS. We're using redhat.

We don't have a test environment, so need to work off the production environment. Is it possible to install Oracle 19c for tests and still have 12c working as normal. Idea would be we'd have odbc connection to a 19c DB and the rest are as normal on 12c version.

Is there anything I'd need to take into account so instantclient or odbc drivers aren't clashing?

Regards,

Craig

Anyone know if using SAS Deployment Manager to uninstall old versions of products after they've been upgraded with a maintenance release would have any negative impact?

I've gone through several upgrades in my current environment, and I would like to conserve disk space. I see things like:

<sas home>/SASStudioMidtier/3.2

<sas home>/SASStudioMidtier/3.4

<sas home>/SASStudioMidtier/3.5

<sas home>/SASStudioMidtier/3.6

<sas home>/SASStudioMidtier/3.7

Since we're currently on 3.7, I would think I can use Deployment Manager to uninstall all the other versions

I am very new to SAS, all the courses I see are using SAS studio, can this be used to connect to Z/os?

Also is Sas Studio free of charge ? I see a reference to an academic version, is this free of charge. There is a length process to get software approved in my show, since it is not used currently it has to go through the approval process. Maybe if we have a SAS license on the host, we have the usage of SAS studio. It seems all the classes point to using this tool.

I am trying to use the tool to access SMF data for performance tunung.

Thank you in advance,

Carol

Moving from HP-UX to Linux

Hi folks,

We are moving our SAS server from HP-UX to Linux. Unfortunately, we don't have space to work with CPORT/CIMPORT.

So, we understand we need to recreate all index on Linux in order to work with the SAS datasets.

We prepare a test and copy, through FTP, some files to the Linux server. In Linux we created a LIBNAME pointed to this copied files. The LIBNAME under SAS EG doesn't shows the tables with index but we could execute PROC CONTENTS on it without any problem.

We tried to execute PROC DATASETS to recreate the index for this tables, but an error appears because the procedure can't locate the table.

So, we execute DATA / SET recreating the table on WORK. After that, we execute again DATA / SET copying from WORK to the LIBNAME. The process executes fine but we still can't see the table on the LIBNAME.

We also tried to execute PROC COPY to WORK libname but the same error as we encounter on PROC DATASETS appears.

Any suggestion?

Regards,

EM 14.2 and EM 15.1 clients on the same machine

Hi folks,

Currently we have 2 SAS Servers. One is Unix and has SAS 9.4M4 with Miner 14.2 and the other one has SAS 9.4 M6 with EM 15.1.

The problem is we need to maintain the access to the different EM version on the same client machine. So, in some case the user will use EM 14.2 connected to Unix and in other case, he use EM 15.1 connect to the new server.

After installed the SAS EM 15.1 client, we duplicate the sassw.config file, so now we have one pointed to SAS EM 15.1 and other one pointed to EM 14.2. After that, we edited the "em.ini" inside EM 14.2 client folder and change the location of the master properties.

When we tried to open SAS EM 14.2, the following error appears. We opened the SASENVIRONMENTURL link on browser on the client machine and it's open fine.

Any better idea to maintain the two access in the same client machine?

Regards,
