sb8leaderboard2.pngGame Wrap-up

I hit the 'Begin Game' button and nothing happened. Yikes! How frightening and embarrassing. Fortunately a screen refresh (following my own advice for technical issues) kickstarted my side of SAS Bowl VIII, SAS OnDemand for Academics. The video for the rest of the event was glitchy at best, but the audio and game flow held up and we made it through another exciting episode.

For the first time, we had a participant go 20-for-20, getting all questions correct. Congrats @elayne! Following in second place was @ronan. Third place went to 'R'; however, I can't identify this user. All I know (from the Chat) is R's brother loves the Cincinnati Reds. R, please reach out to us in the Community so we can give you props and send your swag.

Question highlights included the fact that France is not part of Great Britain (much to the relief of @ronan), you cannot request more than the 5GB of storage space allotted for SAS OnDemand for Academics, and I learned the Big Dipper is part of Ursa Major (The Great Bear).

Technical difficulties and all, you can catch a replay of the game in the video below.

Up Next

SAS Global Forum is scheduled for May 18-21. The all-virtual event is the inspiration for SAS Bowl IX. SAS Bowl IX, SAS Global Forum is set for April 20, at 4 PM ET. Notice the time change. We're using the new time slot to try and accommodate those outside the US. Who knows, it may be more convenient for those in the US as well?

While I'll create a library article with details of SAS Bowl IX, much of the information will be listed on a Community Events Calendar entry. This is a new SAS Community space and will lend itself well for scheduling and promoting future SAS Bowl events.

See you in April.

Pregame

Software as a Service (SaaS) is pretty typical these days and growing in popularity. No install, no maintenance, no worries. Just open your wallet and off you go. Well, when it comes to SAS software, the first three points are certainly true, and luckily, the cost statement is not. Meet SAS OnDemand for Academics. Used by educators, students, and independent learners, hundreds of thousands have already taken advantage of the offering. It simply doesn't get any easier (or free'er).

SAS-Bowl-Graphic-356x356-Black-text.jpgWe're featuring SAS OnDemand for Academics in the March installment of the SAS Support Communities trivia event the SAS Bowl. SAS Bowl VIII, SAS OnDemand for Academics is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16, at 10 AM ET, and features questions based on SAS' free SaaS offering as well as other trivia, both SAS and non-SAS.

Where will questions come from?

There are too many details and too much goodness to cover here. Check out the resources below to prep for the event (start with the AWESOME video from Dominique).

My daughter @abrahbean is a user of SAS OnDemand for Academics as part of her internship class at her high school. You can follow her experience in her article My Journey Learning SAS Begins. This is a great example of ease of access and use for SAS OnDemand for Academics.

SAS Bowl and event details

Hi there,

It is very nice for an event like that, but it will be 3 am in New Zealand time so it is quite hard for us to follow. On that day, not only this event but also the event following "Top 10 Syntax errors and how to fix them" also be held around 4 am in the New Zealand timezone. Is there any way to overcome it?

Warm regards and thanks.

Ahhhh the joys of living on the other side of the planet 😉... Previous SAS Bowl events have been at 1am in Brisbane, Australia and I wake up attend and then go back to bed. This event is at midnight with the recent US daylight savings change.

I hosted SAS Bowl IV, SUGA Bowl last year which was on at 2PM EST (5am local time). Perhaps there could be some future US EDT SAS Bowl afternoon events to cater for US western folk and down under region and also for Europeans where it will be their evening. 😀 Thoughts @joeFurbee?

Hi @Phil_NZ and @MichelleHomes

Great point. I'm easily convinced and we want to make the event available to more people around the globe. We'll plan on hosting SAS Bowl IX, SAS Global Forum in the afternoon ET. 4 PM here is 6 AM in Brisbane and 9 AM in Wellington. This will also be evening in EMEA, so it won't be too late for them.

Be on the lookout for the article for next month's event. It should come out early next week.

Thanks again for your interest,

Joe

That's great!

Thank you @joeFurbee  and @MichelleHomes  for your kindness!

Warm regards,

Phil.

YAY!!! Thanks @Phil_NZ (Phil) for your suggestion!

Thanks for the wrap up @joeFurbee - you did so well hosting with the technical issues. Congrats @elayne - a fabulous achievement!

Looking forward to SAS Bowl IX especially with it being at 4pm ET too!

Hi @MichelleHomes

Thank you for organizing this event, it really cool for me. Thank you for listening to us about the timezone, it really warm. Could you please send out the ics file for reminding the SAS Bowl IX for Outlook when it is available?

Warm regards.

Hi @Phil_NZ,

So pleased to see you attended SAS Bowl VIII and enjoyed it. Great to know you're keen to attend the next event too! It is heaps of fun - isn't it!!! All thanks should go to @joeFurbee though - he's the SAS Bowl organizer and champ!

"See" you on April 20th (well actually it will be April 21st for us). 👋

Cheers,

Michelle

@MichelleHomes Yes, Many thanks, and I want to get involved more with SAS Forum because I grow up so fast since being a member here. A big thanks to @joeFurbee for organizing things as well/

Warmest regards,

Phil.

Thanks @MichelleHomes! And thanks @joeFurbee for making this happen, even despite that technical difficulty that I think made many of us simultaneously wonder if all our connections had died.

Looking forward to seeing all of you again at a more inclusive time 🙂
